Hair Loss Treatment for Men & Women 2010
One of the chief causes of hair loss in women especially is “over processing”. Over processing can occur in a variety of ways. When the bald spots begin to emerge, that means the hair and the scalp have already given up.
FINDING OUT TOO LATE
Women with curly hair often have their natural curls straightened with hot iron combs. While the resulting “shiny” hair is easier to comb and looks good for a short while, the damage is long lasting.
Accelerated hair loss is a traitor. Sometimes, a salon procedure done years ago can
have repercussions today. That’s what happened to Barbara Cabrera-

THE FDA DISAPPROVED THE FOLLOWING:
According to the Food and Drug Authority, Office of Cosmetics and Colors:
“Hair straighteners and hair dyes are among our top consumer complaint areas. Complaints range from hair breakage to symptoms warranting an emergency room visit. Reporting such complaints is voluntary, and the reported problem is often due to incorrect use of a product rather than the product itself.”
The Office of Cosmetics and Colors of the FDA continues:
“[Our office] encourages consumers to understand the risks that come with using hair chemicals, and to take a proactive approach in ensuring their proper use. [Our agency] doesn't have authority under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act to require premarket approval for cosmetics, but it can take action when safety issues surface.”
UNSCRUPULOUS CORPORATE ENTITIES
How can a market protect itself from unscrupulous corporate entities? Sometimes the problem is so well covered that it’s nearly impossible for the majority of the market to catch on quickly.
What results is dozens of complaints, and inadequate or inappropriate response from the guilty company. An example of this would be the case of the Rio Naturalizer System (Neutral Formula), which had been proven to be caustic.
Complaints ranged from itchy scalps to hair loss. World Rio Corporation, the manufacturer and distributor of the product, promised that it had already stopped the shipping of the said product. However, the FDA found out that it was still receiving orders from places such as California.
Another problem is false information. Some chemical “relaxers” state that it has “no lye”. Logically, the market would immediately shift to these relaxers because a supposedly harmful chemical had been removed. That is not the case, according to Lark Lambert, a biologist from the FDA.
"People may think because it says `no lye' that it's not caustic. Research has shown that this combination in "no lye" relaxers results in less scalp irritation than lye relaxers, but the same safety rules apply for both. They should be used properly, left on no longer than the prescribed time, carefully washed out with neutralizing shampoo, and followed up with regular conditioning.”
